A steel fixer installs and ties together reinforced bars used to strengthen buildings and engineering structures from housing to bridges. Our team begins the work by setting out the work area following engineering plans. They have to use hand and power tools to cut and bend bars. They will fix the formwork and shuttering used to hold setting concrete in place and after that they will fix the steel to concrete bases. Installing beams and pre-cast slabs and joining cages and sections is also a part of the job.
Fixing is fastening the steel reinforcing bars so that they stay in the correct place between the spacers and relative to each other. The steel must stay in place while workers walk on it, while concrete is being placed and during compaction. Tie-wire is used at the junctions of bars to hold them together, it must be tied tightly and free ends must not protrude into the cover space.
